(More customer reviews)A formatted hard will always show less capacity.It's not difficult at all to install the maxi z.ul; you connect the drive to an Ethernet switch using a CAT5 cable (just like a NAS device) but instead of configuring it via a browser you install a software driver, which appears to Windows Device Manager as a SCSI adapter #151; and then use a Windows utility to locate and configure the drive. The driver and software make up the first layer of security for the maxi z.ul, because both are required to access the drive. In fact, before you can use the drive you must "register" the device by entering a 20-character alphanumeric code that's unique to each unit. This code provides read-only access, and for write access as well you can enter additional 5-digit write key. We are using in our office two DataStation maxi z.ul drives, they work like a charm; we love the fact that we have an exact mirror for the data we back up every day. It's an excellent choice in a network environment!

The DataStation maxi z.ul 400 GB allows centralized provisioning and access to data within a network, without the need for an expensive, maintenance-intensive data server. The maxi z.ul network drive is integrated into the network and appears directly as an additional hard disk with its own drive letter in the existing Windows, Mac or Linux operating system. A total of up to 64 users can access the DataStation maxi z.ul concurrently, with direct savings to the network drive ensuring data is always up to date. The new data server substitute not only has a direct network connection but also a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 interface, making it just as flexible as a regular USB hard disk.The NDAS technology used in the DataStation maxi z.ul exploits, optimally, the available bandwidth and provides for much faster data transmission compared to conventional network storage systems.Using two or more DataStation maxi z.ul within a single network can increase data throughput further. At the press of a button the drives can be merged into one large data storage unit (RAID 0). All users can continually access the enlarged entity. Consequently, storage within the network can be scaled continually to meet users' future needs. The DataStation maxi z.ul drive supports RAID 1, which provides for optimal fault tolerance. In this operating mode, data is automatically mirrored to the network's second DataStation maxi z.ul in real time.
